THE Kaanyatan Bridge that connects the towns of Urbiztondo and Mangatarem, has become a point of concern owing to its inability to accommodate large buses, trucks, and heavy equipment vehicles.

According to Urbiztondo Mayor Modesto Operaña, a meeting was held with Mangatarem Mayor Ramil Ventinilla to discuss the urgent need for a vertical clearance at the bridge.

Mayor Ventinilla, who recently inspected the bridge section inside Mangatarem’s jurisdiction, observed significant wear and tear in the flooring and decided to install a vertical clearance on their side.

In a statement, Mayor Operaña emphasized that it’s the provincial government that’s responsible for the maintenance of the bridge because funding options to address the necessary repair is needed.

Despite the current limitations, Operaña said there is no cause for concern regarding vehicle safety because both the Urbiztondo and Mangatarem police outposts stationed at either end of the bridge stop the passage of large vehicles such as buses and trucks.

Residents and commuters are advised to stay informed about any updates regarding the bridge’s maintenance and clearance improvements. (Ahikam Pasion)
