REGION 1 Medical Center (R1MC), a vital healthcare institution in Ilocandia, has recently implemented strict guidelines to ensure transparency and fairness in its operations.

The center, which provides medical assistance to patients, has been receiving funds from local government units (LGUs) and politicians for the benefit of their constituents.

However, a recent incident involving an alleged fixer from Mangaldan town raised concerns.

The fixer allegedly demanded additional payments from a patient who had already availed of the “No Balance Billing” program at R1MC, meaning the patient had incurred no expenses during their hospital stay.

In an interview on Wednesday, June 26, Dr. Joseph Roland Mejia, the R1MC Hospital director, said he issued a memo to frontliners stressing that only patients or their immediate families are allowed to transact directly with the Malasakit Center, banning representatives and liaison officers from LGUs and political offices from transacting for patients at the  Malasakit Center.

Dr. Mejia clarified that only registered facilitators from various municipalities can oversee transactions for the center at R1MC among them from Dagupan City, Binmaley, Bolinao, and Anda.

Additionally, only facilitation from Pangasinan congressmen like De Venecia, Arenas, Agabas, Cojuangco, and Celeste, are being honored. (Ahikam Pasion)
