THE Dagupan City Health Office (CHO) urged Dagupeños to take precautions against dengue fever with the onset of the rainy season.

Dr. Ofelia Rivera, Dagupan City Health Officer, emphasized the need for environmental cleanliness to prevent dengue fever with tarpaulins hung in all barangays to remind them.

Dr. Rivera highlighted the ‘5S’ strategy in combating dengue, which includes ‘Search and Destroy,’ potential mosquito breeding sites, such as gutters, accumulated water on roofs, and water collected in vases, must be cleaned.

For self-protection, she urged the use of mosquito repellent sprays or wearing long-sleeved clothing and pants to prevent mosquito bites and advised those afflicted with symptoms like fever, headache, and loss of appetite, to seek medical help right away.

Additionally, Dr. Rivera advocates for the implementation of the ‘4 O’clock Habit,’ which involves cleaning the entire environment, including inside homes, to drive away and eliminate the breeding grounds of dengue-carrying mosquitoes. (Ahikam Pasion)
