THE Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) clarified that it still is not the rainy or wet season, despite the usual afternoon and nightly rains and thunderstorms experienced in Pangasinan.

Gener Quitlong, PAGASA Weather Specialist, said despite rains and thunderstorms, the rainy season has not yet formally entered, and there are criteria to be met before PAGASA formally declares the onset of rainy season.

The first is the presence of the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat; the second is the amount of rain. “It should be 25 millimeters or higher in five days”, he said.

Doon sa 13 rain monitoring stations ng PAGASA dapat makapagtala na ng ganon”, he said pointing out that one of the 13 rain monitoring stations is located in Dagupan City.

Quitlong added that a low-pressure area or tropical depression could trigger and pull the Habagat that was monitored to be weak last week and increase the amount of rainfall. (Ahikam Pasion)
