El Niño damaged P78.7 million worth of rice

SOME P78.7 million worth of palay were lost due to the adverse effects of the El Niño phenomenon in 10 towns of Pangasinan alone.

Altogether, the towns of Dasol, Infanta, Lingayen, Mangatarem, Mangaldan, Manaoag, Bautista, Laoac, Sto. Tomas and Tayug registered rice crop losses at P78,797,055.67 so far. The provincial government extended help to the affected farmers in term of farm input such as fertilizers, chemicals and others. (Rona Racca)

Forest fires in Pangasinan on uptick 

MORE incidents of grass and forest fires in Pangasinan are being reported, according to records of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP. F/Sr Superintendent Roberto Miranda, however, clarified that there is a noticeably increase in the number of forest fires but not only in Pangasinan but in the country.

A total of 167 fire incidents were already recorded in Pangasinan from January to April this year, He attributed the high temperature index daily as the cause of the rush of forest fires, including community grass fires. In response to the problem, BFP in Pangasinan conducted series of forest fire management training in 15 locations in a bid to educate residents how to prevent and suppress forest fires. LTFRB: No deadline extension for PUV consolidation 

 LTFRB Region 1 director Atty. Anabel Marian-Nullar said there will be more extension of the April 30 Public Utility Vehicle consolidation under the PUV Modernization Law as indicated by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

After April 30, jeepneys that failed to consolidate into cooperatives or corporations will no longer be allowed to ply their usual routes because their franchises will be cancelled. Nullar said that after April 30, LTFRB is preparing for the next phase of the PUV modernization. (Joana de Vera)

Devotees again flock at Manaoag basilica 

DEVOTEES from across the country traveled to Manaoag anew last April 22 to witness the anniversary of the solemn canonical coronation of the image of Our Holy Rosary of Manaoag enshrined at the Minor Basilica of Manaoag.

It was on April 22, 1926 when the image of Our Lady of Manaoag was canonically crowned through a decree promulgated in Rome by Pope Puis XI. Devotees revealed that there are only two occasions in a year when the image of Our Lady of Rosary of Manaoag is brought down from its pedestal atop the altar, and brought out of the basilica, The first is on April 22 when Manaoag celebrates its town fiesta and on October during the Feast of Our Holy Rosario.(Jam Victorio)

Pangasinan SP to probe increasing Highway accidents 

THE Sangguniang Panlalawigan, on motion of Fourth Board Member Jerry Agerico Rosario, will conduct a committee hearing in aid of legislation to determine the causes of the alarming increase in the number of vehicular accidents involving motorcycles and tricycles along the highways in Pangasinan.

The SP invited officials of concerned government agencies, like the Highway Patrol  Group, Police Provincial Office, Land Transportation Office, Department of Public Works and Highways and others to shed light why records showed there are increasing number of motor vehicle incidents nowadays.
