“I WILL not tolerate homophobia and physical abuse in my town,” was the quick reaction of Bayambang Mayor Niña Jose-Quiambao to the assault on drag artist and performer of Taylor Sheesh, an impersonator of Grammy winner Taylor Swift during a concert in the town as part of their 410th Pista’y Baley 2024 celebration.

In a Facebook message, Quiambao apologized to Taylor Sheesh: “Don’t worry. Authorities have the person in question and this matter and incident will be dealt with accordingly.”

She added, “ BYB (Bayambang) is a peaceful and safe town and I cannot condone this stupidious (sic) act! I am so mad and so angry!!!!”

In a separate Facebook live message, the mayor expressed the local government unit’s love and support to the LGBTQ community. “Here in Bayambang, we are very inclusive, very progressive town and that we love the LGBTQ community and we serve all races, all genders everyone here in Bayambang,” she added.

She assured that appropriate cases would be filed against the suspect.

The police said an intoxicated Edison Lillo, 39, college graduate and a resident of Barangay Buayaen, Bayambang, tried to grab Mac Lane Coronel aka “Taylor Sheesh”, 29, member of the LBTQ, while performing during the Kalutan Concert.

The cellphone video provided by the event organizer, Nino Elijah Gaddi and LGU Bayambang showed “Taylor Sheesh” walked to the audience when the intoxicated suspect roughly reached out to touch the artist that hurt the victim.

The suspect was immediately arrested by the police. (Eva Visperas)
