Pangasinan PNP probes abduction of two youth leaders
THE Pangasinan Police Provincial Office is investigating the abduction of two youth leaders by unidentified armed men in San Carlos City on the night of March 24. The victims, Eco Dangla and Jak Tiong, were reportedly accosted by armed men then at gunpoint were forced into their SUV that sped towards an unspecified direction.
The investigation was ordered by P/Colonel Jeff Fanged, police provincial director, on the urgent request of relatives and friends of both Dangla and Tiong who fear for the safety of the two in the hands of their abductor. Pangasinan PNP is now coordinating with other law enforcement agencies that could possibly share some valuable information on the men responsible for their abduction and the whereabouts of the two. Lesser suicide incidents recorded this year
SUICIDE cases in Pangasinan have dropped from 54 last year to only 32 (30 percent) compared to last year’s statistics. According to P/Capt. Renan de la Cruz, public information officer of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office, depression was tagged by the PNP as the main reason behind the reported suicide cases.
De la Cruz believes that suicides can be prevented if the mechanics of the support system in all places would be in place. He asked friends and relatives of any person suffering from depression to refer them to mental health care doctors. (Jam Victorio)
2,000 farmers in Ilocos Region affected by El Niño
SOME 2,000 farmers tilling 1,026 hectares of land in the Ilocos Region are already affected by the El Nino phenomenon. This was bared by the Department of Agriculture Field Office 1 that’s closely monitoring farmers’ predicaments.
DA FO1, however, believes that El Niño slowed down this month compared to the previous months but still continues to cause devastating effect to agriculture. Local government units in Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte are already undertaking intervention measures i to cushion the harsh impact of El Nino on their constituents. (Roma Racca)
PDEA alarmed over increased marijuana stocks in Pangasinan
THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) expressed alarm over the big volume of marijuana that are being brought to Pangasinan and seized by its agents. PDEA recently seized P2.3 million worth of dried marijuana leaves in its latest buy-bust operations in two separate towns in Pangasinan.
Two siblings from whom P1.4 million worth of marijuana was seized were arrested in a buy-bust operation in Aguilar. A follow up operation resulted in the seizure of another P800,000 worth of marijuana and the arrest of two other suspects in Urdaneta. All the suspects in these operations, according to PDEA, are relatives. (Badz Agtalao)
Cheaper rice sold in Pangasinan markets nowadays
GOOD news to households in Pangasinan. Cheaper rice continues to be sold to the public in various retail outlets in Dagupan City and Pangasinan. To date, the cheapest rice in the market is from P45 to P46 per kilo.
This is the effect of the still ongoing harvest season of rice planted in irrigated rice lands during second cropping season. But the bad news is that prices of manufactured products like canned sardines, bottled water and the like are expected to spike in the coming few days. (Rona Racca)
Vegetable prices spiked before Holy Week
PRICES of vegetables in the markets of Pangasinan spiked one week before Holy Week.
A kilo of string beans is sold for P100 to P130 per kilo. One kilo of okra and a kilo of eggplant, from P100 to P130. Vegetable vendors revealed their suppliers imposed higher prices to their commodities because of the higher farm gate price being charged by farmer producers, on account of lower production brought about by El Niño phenomenon.
