PHO warns Pangasinenses over high heat index outdoor

THE Provincial Health Office cautioned Pangasinenses to take necessary precautions to prevent heat stroke and heat exhaustion that may lead to death as a result of the high heat index prevailing in the province today. To prevent dehydration leading to heat stroke or heat exhaustion, PHO advised people to make the habit of drinking eight or more glasses of water a day and to go to the nearest shade when the sun is at its hottest. Those taking  maintenance medicine must shy away from outdoor when the sun is at its hottest in order to avoid heat-related sickness.

Last Wednesday alone, the PAGASA weather station in Dagupan recorded a heat index of 39 degrees centigrade, one of the highest in the country.

Deeper probe on NFA’s sale of buffer stock sought

THE Bantay Bigas, a non-government organization, said it believes that there are higher officials behind the sale of 75,000 bags of rice that comprised the country’s buffer stock other than the 139 officials of the National Food Authority (NFA) who were preventively suspended for 60 days by the Ombudsman.

Bantay Bigas Spokesperson Cathy Estavillo told IFM Dagupan that his group is in solidarity with the others in seeking deeper investigation into irregular sale of this big volume of NFA rice to the private traders. She expressed belief that the sale of NFA buffer stock to private traders in violation of the NFA charter and without any resolution from the NFA board  have been going on under the past administration, perpetrated by past officials.
