UPDATE ON GRIDLOCK

THE return of Arellano Street to two-way traffic from one-way traffic was tentatively set by Mayor Fernandez on March 15 this year.

The date was confirmed by City Engineer Josephine Corpuz who accompanied Mayor Fernandez during another ocular inspection of the ongoing elevation of the street last Wednesday.

Fernandez said contractors working on the elevation of Arellano Street personally assured her of the date of completion of their projects.

At present, only public utility jeepney and private vehicles bound for Bonuan are allowed to pass through Arellano Street.

Fernandez said the resumption of two-way traffic along Arellano Street will restore normalcy to owners of businesses in the area, including students of both Universidad de Dagupan and University of Pangasinan.

She called on the businessmen and students to extend their patience a bit more as work on the road project already entering its final stage of completion.

There are three different contractors simultaneously working section by section on the elevation of Arellano Street.

Corollary to this, the pedestrian bridge in front of Nepo Mall is being removed as it is already too low for trucks and buses after Arellano Street is elevated. In its place, a pedestrian lane will be designated for crossing Arellano Street.

Contractors of PLDT have also began removing all dangling telephone wires strung across and along Arellano Street.

At the same time, the Dagupan Electric Corporation already relocated its electric poles along the path of elevated drainage system on right side of Arellano Street. (Leonardo Micua)
