Pangasinan logs 21 dengue deaths in 2023
TWENTY-ONE Pangasinenses died from dengue in 2023, compared to 9 dengue deaths in 2022, according to the Provincial Health Office (PHO).
The PHO Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit’s report noted that 3,308 dengue cases were recorded from January 1 to December 31, 2023, compared to only 2,965 cases in 2022.
Youngest of the 2023 fatalities was an eight months old, and the eldest was 69 years old.
In an interview, provincial health officer Dr. Cielo Almoite said the deaths increased because the patients were rushed to the hospital only when they were already in the late stages of dengue.
The 14 provincial government-run hospitals in Pangasinan have dengue fast lanes that were dedicated to cater to individuals with dengue symptoms.
Meanwhile, Almoite said that indigent patients admitted in public hospitals are qualified to avail benefits for free under the Universal Healthcare Law. (Ahikam Pasion)
