FOUR towns and one city were recently placed in the dengue watchlist of the Provincial Health Office (PHO) after the province registered 72 cases of dengue as of January this year.

However, the PHO clarified that the 72 dengue cases were 13 percent lower compared to the 83 cases recorded over the same period last year.

Placed in the dengue watchlist this January for their higher cases of dengue were Lingayen (12), Binmaley (7), San Carlos City (7), Bugallon (6) and Labrador (4).

Dagupan reported four cases but it is not under the jurisdiction of the PHO.

It was in the town of Binmaley where an 11-year-old girl died while undergoing treatment at the Region 1 Medical Center in Dagupan City.

Data relayed by PHO to the Pangasinan provincial information office showed that the other dengue cases were in Bani (3), Sual (3), Malasiqui (3), Bayambang (3), Calasiao (2), San Fabian (2), Urdaneta City (2), Umingan (2) and one each from Anda, Mapandan, Sta. Barbara, Basista, Manaoag, Villasis and Rosales. (Leonardo Micua)
