THE Provincial Health Office (PHO) recorded 145 persons that suffered from influenza last week but there is no cause for alarm as the number is 18 percent lower than the 177 cases recorded for the same period in 2023.

Dr. Anna de Guzman, provincial health officer, cited a report prepared by the PHO’s Provincial Epidemiological Surveillance Unit that showed that most of those afflicted with influenza or flu were children, from below one year old -14 years old.

However, there were 15 persons afflicted who were 60 years old and above.

As a result, PHO placed Alaminos City and five other towns in its watchlist for flu. Alaminos City was on top with 29 cases, Lingayen (17), Binmaley (10), Bayambang (8), Bolinao (8) and Sta. Barbara (6). (Dagupan, which is not under the PHO, recorded  11 influenza cases).

The number of cases were based on data culled from Pangasinan hospitals, government and private, and the Region 1 Medical Center in Dagupan City. Rural Health Units and City Health Offices. (Leonardo Micua)
