PNP assures no indiscriminate gun firing on New Year’s eve 

P/Brig.General Lou Evangelista, police regional office 1 director, expressed confidence that there will be no indiscriminate firing of guns by policemen and decided not to put a tape the nozzle of their firearms.

He said the policemen in the region are disciplined having attended many different training programs and he expects them to be vigilant against persons firing their guns indiscriminately. At the same time, Evangelista called on firearms holders with expired licenses to surrender their firearms or face charges for illegally possessing firearms. (John Caranto)

OCD calls DDRMCs vigilance for coming New Year revelry 

OFFICE of Civil Defense Regional Director Gregory Cayetano called on the police, other law enforcement agencies to maintain their vigilance against indiscriminate firing of guns and illegal possession of firearms during the coming New Year revelry.

He made the appeal during a meeting among member agencies of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) to map out plans that will ensure safe and secured celebration of the New Year.

He also called the observance of no sailing/fishing in high risk areas of the Lingayen Gulf and the West Philippine Sea on all fishing vessels as waves are high and dangerous during this period. (Bad Agtalao)

Hospitals now open for all would-be firecracker victims 

ALL hospitals in Pangasinan, public and private, are ready to treat persons injured by firecracker explosions during New Year’s Eve revelry.

Statistics released by the Department of Health-Center for Health Development 1 showed that firecracker-related incidents in Region 1 increased by 82 percent last year over the incidents recorded during the previous year of 2021. Pangasinan led in the number of injuries with 45, followed by La Union (9), Ilocos Sur (5) and Ilocos Norte (1). Five vendors surrender P7K-worth of banned firecrackers 

SOME P7,000 worth of illegal firecrackers were recently personally surrendered by vendors at the town’s public market to the Agno police. P/Corporal Rushdie Gabriel of the Agno Police, said the five vendors were made to sign an affidavit of voluntary surrender of the illegal pyrotechnics.

These include 45 packs of five-star firecracker or 4,500 pieces and 177 pieces of PopPop firecracker. (John Caranto)

OPVet places 4 cities, 3  towns in its  rabies watch list 

THE Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OpVet) placed the cities of Dagupan, San Carlos, Urdaneta and Alaminos and the towns of Mangaldan, Urbiztondo and Malasiqui in its watch list due to their high incidence of recorded rabies cases. It reported 45 recorded rabies cases from January to December 10 this year, or 40 percent higher than the 35 cases recorded for the same period in 2022.

In Dagupan City, the City Veterinary Officer Daniel Garcia said his office is probing unreported rabies cases in various barangays and called on residents bitten by dogs or cats to immediately go to the nearest animal bite center for anti-rabies injection. (John Caranto)

Flu cases rise in Pangasinan—CHO 

THE Provincial  Health Office (PHO) reported 3,201 cases of flu in Pangasinan from January to first week of December this year or higher by 39 percent compared to the 2,300 cases registered for the same period in 2022.

Dr. Cielo Almoite, provincial health officer 1, Almoite blamed the constant changing weather condition for the uptick in the cases of flu and most vulnerable to flu are immono-compromised persons, particularly, senior citizens and children. He advised persons showing flu symptoms to eat nutritious food, rest well and take prescribed medicines. (John Caranto)

LTO:  ‘No registration, no travel’ policy’ next year 

THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) will strictly implement the “no registration, no travel policy” on all motor vehicles along the highways starting next month of January 2024. The LTO in Dagupan said P10,000  fine will be imposed on owners of unregistered vehicles  traveling along the highways.

LTO said it will mobilize more personnel to flag down motor vehicles traveling without updated  registration. (Badz Agtalao)

Devotees flock at Minor Basilica of Manaoag anew 

MANAOAG Mayor Jeremy Agerico Rosario observed that the number of devotees that flocked to the Minor Basilica of Manaoag this Christmas doubled and expects the exodus of devotees to  the Basilica to continue till after the New Year.

While he was happy to note that no vehicle accident was reported in all roads leading to Manaoag, he said traffic snarls—though still manageable— could not be helped because of the big volume of vehicles that entered the town. (Badz Agtalao)

Rescue teams posted in various beaches 

RESCUE teams were deployed by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office to various beaches in Pangasinan where thousands of tourists and vacationers flocked during the past long holidays.

He warned fishermen not to venture into the sea to catch fish as waves are high and dangerous. (Joanna de Vera)

Tourists flock to Pangasinan beaches during Christmas break 

TOURISTS flocked the beaches of Lingayen, Binmaley, San Fabian and Sual during the long holiday. Personnel of the PNP and the Philippine Coast Guard were patrolling the beaches, watching out for possible drowning incidents.

Other policemen were deployed to help the Public Order and Safety Office in various towns to manage flow to traffic. (Matthew Pacheco)

 Tons of garbage left in beaches 

TOURISTS left tons of garbage, from plastic bags, cups, sticks and tin cans, were abandoned in the beaches of Lingayen, Binmaley, Dagupan and San Fabian Pangasinan after the Christmas holiday.

The local governments noted that visitors did not care about proper disposal of their of their wastes while enjoying themselves at the beaches in the province. (Matthew Pacheco)
