THE Provincial Veterinary Office (OPVet) is closely monitoring four cities and three municipalities in Pangasinan after recording an alarming increase in number of rabies cases.

Being monitored are Mangaldan, Urbiztondo, Malasiqui, Urdaneta City, Dagupan City, Alaminos City, and San Carlos City.

From January 1 up to December 10 this year, the OPVet already recorded 49 cases of rabies, or 40-percent higher against 2022’s only 35 cases recorded over the same period.

In Dagupan, City Vet Dr. Daniel Garcia is regularly making rounds in every barangay to monitor unreported cases. Anti-rabies vaccines are available in the City Veterinary Office.

In Mangaldan, 500 pets have undergone deworming, castration, vitamin supplementation, and spaying.

The OPVet is also conducting veterinary medical missions to lower rabies cases.

If a person is bitten, families are advised to immediately take the patient to the nearest Animal Bite Center. (Ahikam Pasion)
