‘Boga’ is top cause for firecracker injury in Region I, says DOH
PANGASINAN already recorded eight firecracker-related injuries as of December 27 monitoring of the Department of Health–Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) Region I.
Dr. Rheuel Bobis, Medical Officer IV, said out of 12 persons injured, four were victims from the firecracker depot explosion in Barangay Malued, Dagupan City which occurred Monday night, December 25. One eventually died while being treated at the Region 1 Medical Center.
The remaining survivors are from the towns of Calasiao and Mangaldan, whose injuries are caused by the ‘boga’, and improvised cannon made of PVC pipes or cylinder cans.
In Region I, there have been 12 injuries so far, three are from La Union, and one in Ilocos Sur province.
The DOH data does not include those admitted to private hospitals.
Majority of victims, save for the individuals injured during the Dagupan City incident, belong to the 6 to 15-year-old age group.
Bobis urged LGUs to enforce stricter implementation of firecracker bans if their area has existing ordinances to ban so.
Bobis said the incidents are ten-percent lower compared to incidents recorded last year. (Ahikam Pasion)
