Transport groups did not join strike, but ask consolidation deadline extension
MEMBERS of the transport sector in Pangasinan confirmed they did not join the nationwide transport strike staged by PISTON and Manibela.
Bernard Tuliao, president of AUTOPro, said Wednesday, only a small percentage of modernized jeepneys were commuting passengers. He appealed to DOTr and the LTFRB to extend the deadline for consolidation of traditional jeepneys on December 31 this year, to allow members to prepare for the phase out of their units. LTFRB assured that traditional jeepneys will not be phased out as long as the owners of the same will consolidate and their units must pass the standard of road-worthiness set by the Land Transportation Office but DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista said the December 31 deadline for consolidation is non-negotiable. P50, P60 per kilo, lowest price of rice in Pangasinan
THERE is no let up in the continuing surge in the price of rice in Pangasinan as the lowest price of the staple is now P50 and P60 per kilo for two qualities.
A rice vendor, Liza Sarmiento, told IFM Dagupan that for the past two weeks, the price of rice kept soaring, adding that it is rather strange because the province is still in the middle of the rice harvesting season.
But she learned that the main reason for the continuing rice price increase is that owing to past farmers are trying to recover their losses during the typhoons and floods. (John Caranto )
