No fare increase for some Dagupan jeepneys
NOT all operators of traditional jeepneys in Dagupan received the updated fare matrix from the transport cooperatives they are affiliated with.
These include the operators of jeepneys plying the Lucao route who said in the absence of an updated fare matrix, they still cannot yet implement the P1 increased fare approved by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on October 8. (Rona Racca)

Dagupan jeepneys ask exemption from PUV Modernization Plan
PUBLIC Utility Vehicle operators in Dagupan continue to appeal to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to still allow traditional jeepneys to ply in Dagupan City after December 31, 2023 since they operate only on short routes within the city’ six square kilometers.
While LTFRB announced it will implement the plan to phase out all traditional jeepneys after December 31 this year, it said it will not immediately stop the operators to enable them time to join a cooperative. The operators had submitted their position that they have no capability to buy P3M for each unit that will only operate on short routes even if they form a cooperative for the purpose. (Rona Racca)

Consumers worry about continuous spike in increasing price of rice.
THE continuing spike in the prices of rice despite the ongoing rice harvest season in Pangasinan and in other rice producing areas of the country puzzles and worries consumers.
In Dagupan City, the lowest price of regularly-milled rice is P47 to P48 per kilo, when it was only P45 last week. However, the Department of Agriculture declared that regularly-milled rice need not be sold at more than P48 per kilo. Households worry that at P50 per kilo, their families will be forced to stop eating rice three times a day. (Rona Racca)

Half-cup rice okayed in Pangasinan
CONSUMERS in Pangasinan are amenable to the proposed bill in Congress seeking to direct all restaurants and eateries all over the country to serve only half cup of rice to their customers every meal to conserve the supply of the staple.
Many have expressed support in media with the observation when people leftovers of served rice in restaurants are aplenty. (Joana de Vera)

Public warned from buying substandard Christmas lights
THE Department of Trade and Industry provincial office warned the public anew to be extra-careful in buying Christmas light decorations from street vendors or even in malls and shops if these do not have Philippine Quality Standard stickers .
It also cautioned people from buying Christmas lights online because without possible physical examination of the product, they may be scammed and get substandard and uncertified products from online sellers. (Joana Racca)

Noche buena products still sold at usual prices
PRICES of noche buena items remain stable in the markets of Dagupan.
Since prices of these commodities are really expected to rise, the Department of Trade and Industry advised consumers to buy their noche buena items now before these are sold at higher prices. But while the opportunity is there to save, many households bemoan of short cash flow limiting them to buy only their immediate needs. (Joana de Vera)

Pork prices spike anew in Dagupan market
THE price of pork in Dagupan markets has breached the P300 per kilo price, and is expected to increased further during the Christmas season comes.
With the prohibitive price of pork, households are forced to reduce their regular consumption by almost half. Many have started to switch to chicken which is cheaper. The higher price of pork today is blamed on the limited supply owing to government restrictions over the presence of the African Swine Fever in the region. (Ronna Racca)

Manaoag prepares for devotees’ influx
THE municipality of Manaoag is now in the thick of preparations for the expected big influx of devotees, tourists and other visitors flocking to the town during the Christmas season.
Mayor Jeremy Rosario met with market vendors selling sundry items around the Minor Basilica of Manaoag, urging them to clean their stalls and premises in preparation for the influx of devotees and to extend utmost courtesy to the visitors. He also called on ambulant vendors not to sell their wares right in the middle of streets but in areas designated for them to sell, warning them of penalties if they violate. (Badz Agtalao)

Badjao beggars are back in droves in Dagupan
BEGGARS from the Badjao tribe in Mindanao are teeming anew in Dagupan City as the Christmas season gets near.
Commuters in Dagupan City noticed the increasing number of beggars boarding passenger jeepneys asking for alms from riders. Most of the beggars are women begging for alms while cuddling their babies with one arm. The Department of Social Welfare Development called on people not to give alms to the street beggars.
