Two more BSKE Candidates told to explain
PREMATURE CAMPAIGNING
THE Commission on Elections (COMELEC)- Dagupan directed two more candidates for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) to explain allegations of premature campaigning.
Atty. Michael Franks Sarmiento, Dagupan City Election Officer, confirmed his office has issued show cause orders to two candidates for the BSKE but did not disclose the specific barangays or positions the candidates are vying for.
According to Sarmiento, the show cause orders against the two candidates stem from allegations of premature campaigning on social media. Premature campaigning on social media has become a common cause for complaints against candidates in the BSKE 2023.
The two candidates in question are now required to provide a counter explanation addressing the allegations made against them.
Sarmiento anticipates that more candidates may receive show cause orders if they continue to violate COMELEC rules on premature campaigning. The two are in addition to the one previously issued a show cause order last week.
In an earlier interview, Atty. Marino Salas, the provincial election supervisor, said four individuals were already issued show cause orders and reminded candidates that the campaign period for the BSKE will officially begin on October 19 and end on October 28. (Ahikam Pasion)
