THE Sangguniang Panlalawigan scheduled a Question Hour during its regular session on October 9 to look into the participation of schools division superintendents  in the discussion of the World Bank report highlighting high learning poverty in the Philippines.

Fourth District Board Member Jerry Agerico Rosario proposed the inquiry expressing concern about the recent report on the state of the country’s educational system.

According to the World Bank’s 2022 assessment, learning poverty in the Philippines stands at a staggering 91%. This figure implies that approximately nine out of every ten 10-year-old children, particularly those in Grades 4 and 5, face significant challenges in reading simple text.

Rosario emphasized that various factors contribute to this poor educational performance and asked that schools division superintendents be engaged in shedding light on these findings and addressing the issues afflicting the Philippine educational system. (Eva Visperas)
