Passage of Dagupan’s P1.3B Annual Budget meets mixed reactions

THE recent approval of Dagupan City’s P1.3 billion annual budget for 2023 by the Sangguniang Panlungsod has garnered mixed reactions from Dagupeños.

While many are delighted with the budget’s eventual approval after nearly a year of delay, some express dismay over the process through which it was passed.

A significant portion of the Dagupan citizenry is pleased that the approved budget will pave the way for the implementation of the city government’s programs and projects aimed at benefiting its 180,000 residents.

However, some critics argue that rules appeared to have been disregarded when the minority managed to pass the budget, outnumbering the majority for the first time in a 5-4 ratio. This occurred while three of the seven majority councilors were abroad.
