Capitol aims to plant 1-M trees by 2024
THE Guico administration is urging Pangasinenses to actively participate in environmental conservation efforts through tree-planting.
In a statement, Gov. Ramon Guico III said his administration’s goal to plant one million trees by June 2024 as part of the Pangasinan Green Canopy Project, is an environmental rehabilitation initiative using a ‘joint stewardship’ strategy.
In September, the Provincial Population Cooperative and Livelihood Development Office (PPCLDO) reported plans to plant 5,892 trees in areas across the province, including Pozorrubio, Mangatarem, Mabini, Alcala, Burgos, Dasol, Manaoag, Natividad, and Aguilar. To date, over 30,000 tree seedlings have been planted in these towns.
The project seeks to promote environmental protection, raise awareness, and educate communities about tree planting and conservation, while encouraging stakeholders’ and communities’ participation in reforestation efforts.
Each town is expected to plant and nurture a minimum of 25,000 native, rare, and endangered tree seedlings, with priority areas including watersheds, riverbanks, coastal regions, and other vulnerable zones.
To project will reward the Best Office/Employee/LGU Implementer based on performance and contributions to the project. (Pangasinan PIO)
