Repair of Sta. Barbara steel dike still ongoing
THE repair of the steel dike located at Barangay Poblacion Norte in Sta. Barbara town is nearing completion.
Town Mayor Carlito Zaplan, in an interview Tuesday, September 5, said the Poblacion Norte part of the steel dike is now 90-percent complete, 75-percent along the Island near the river, fifty-percent along the riverside, and thirty-percent along Barangay Dalongue.
Zaplan said work on the reported crevices and cracks on the dike due to the recent flooding and rains had to be suspended for days because heavy rains continued to pour and the town has no equipment to deal with the repairs.
He asked his constituents, particularly, netizens who bashed him on seeing no workers at the steel dike area, to understand the situation why work had to be suspended.
He said the heavy equipment being used is not even owned by the local government.
Meanwhile, he said his administration is preparing for the adjustment, maintenance, and elevation of the hanging bridges over the Sinocalan River in Sta. Barbara.
The Sta. Barbara Municipal Engineering Office has begun conducting inspections on the hanging bridges. (Ahikam Pasion)
