Aspirants dismayed over slow COC processing in Malasiqui
MANY of the aspirants for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections in Malasiqui expressed dismay over the slow processing by the Municipal Election Office of their Certificates of Candidacy (COCs).
As a result, the election office was crowded, waiting for their turn to file their respective COCs.
Municipal Election Officer Jeanette Hernandez, however, assured that her staff is doing everything they can in order to accommodate all the would-be candidates.
She asked the aspirants for BSKE to first complete all their requirements before going to the Comelec to file their COCs to avoid conveniences.

6 die, 4 hurt in mishap after coming from Dagupan’s Tondaligan
SIX persons died and four others were hurt when the van they were riding after day-long picnic at Tondaligan Park in Dagupan City figured in a head-on collision with a trailer truck in Bauang, La Union.
P/Major Dominador Apostol, chief of police of Bauang, said that based on accounts of witnesses, the van was on the way to San Juan, La Union when it crossed the lane of the trailer truck.
The trailer truck driver tried to avoid the oncoming van, but the speeding car crashed into it.
As a result of the accidentas , six persons, including the youngest of them, a six-year old girl, died instantly. Four other occupants of the van were rushed to the hospital for treatment. Four of the fatalities are from Isabela and two others are from La Union.
The driver of the trailer truck and his helper sustained minor injuries.

Fogging sought in San Carlos City village due to rising dengue cases
RESIDENTS of Barangay Pangpang in San Carlos City called on city government to conduct fogging operations in their village after noting that several residents were infected with dengue.
Marian Elguera used the social media to call on the city government after her husband and father experienced symptoms of dengue, i.e., rashes in different parts of their bodies and fever.
When IFM Dagupan relayed the message to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMC), it confirmed that, indeed, there are several persons afflicted with dengue in Barangay Pangpang and assured that the fogging operations will begin soon as the chemicals arrive.

Students scammed by persons using name of LGU Binalonan
SEVERAL students were scammed in Binalonan town when certain individuals who posed as boarding house owners online charged them “reservation fees”.
The students reported that upon payment of fees online, the accounts of the “boarding house owners” were no longer accessible.
The scammers used the name of LGU Binalonan, making it appear that the latter is the owner of the boarding houses offered for rent to students.
When informed about it, the Binalonan government said it has no boarding house for rent by students studying in the town.
The students were advised to inquire into the status of anyone claiming to be doing business in the town by checking if they have business permit, license to operate, zoning clearance, sanitary permit, fire safety permit, waste water discharge and waste segregation permit for their boarding houses.

Dagupan folks getting ready for another flood
RESIDENTS in low-lying areas in Dagupan are again preparing to raise their belongings inside their homes in the event Super Typhoon Hanna batters Pangasinan, an ordeal they suffered when Typhoons “Egay” and “Goring” struck only few days between them.
The affected residents claim they lost thousands in values of damaged appliances, furniture, documents when floodwaters rose and they vowed never to be again caught flat-footed by another incoming big typhoon.
Last week, some areas in the city were under water because of the occurrence of the high tide, measuring more than one meter and feared situation could be worse if Typhoon Hanna unleashes torrential rains.
Meanwhile, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office reported that the level of water of the Sinocalan River in Sta. Barbara is still rising.
Dagupan is flood basin of all water coming from the upland before it drains to the Lingayen Gulf.

High tide submerges Dagupan’s business district daily
DAGUPAN’S business district has been underwater the past days because the height of high tide was 1.34 meters and Dagupan is only one meter above sea level, hence flooding is inevitable.
During high tide, motorists were advised to avoid the main thoroughfares to avoid delay in movements.

Department heads, no show again in SP public hearing
OFFICIALS of the City Engineer’s Office, City Planning and Development Office and Public Order and Safety Office were again a no show in the fourth and last public hearing of the committees on Public Works and Infrastructure, and on Tourism on the elevation of roads and construction of wider drainage canals in Dagupan City.
City Secretary Ryan Ravanzo confirmed that invitations to the department heads were sent for the last and fourth public hearing.
Only Bernie Errasquin, president of the Arellano-Bani Neighborhood Association, attended the hearing.

CDRRMO to BDRRMO: Be on red alert
THE Dagupan City Disaster Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) advised Barangay DRRMO to place themselves under red alert status on account of the flood caused by high tide.
Ronald de Guzman, head of the CDRRMO technical working group, said because of the daily occurrence of high tide last week, there is a need to raise alarm level of barangays near the Pantal River from blue to red.
This is to ensure that BDRRMOs are ready in case of a need to evacuate residents.
To date, the ‘no swimming’ policy is on effect at the Tondaligan Beach.

Residents of WILD diseases during rainy days
THE local government of Dagupan has warned residents to take precautionary measures against WILD diseases which are prevalent nowadays because of the rainy season.
WILD stands for Water-borne infectious diseases, influenza, leptospirosis and dengue.
The city government said people experiencing symptoms of these diseases should go to the City Health Office and can request medicines for free, particularly for suspected leptospirosis for persons who waded through floodwaters.
