PERSONS Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) at the Pangasinan Provincial Jail (PPJ) are provided an additional meal allowances, making it one of the highest PDL meal allowance in the region.

Gov. Ramon Guico III directed the provincial government to provide P120 daily, up from P100, effective from July this year.

PPJ Chief Lovell Dalisay said the increase “will contribute to improved care and treatment for the 248 inmates currently housed at the facility.”

It’s worth noting that in 2022, the governor had already ordered an increase from P70 to P100.

Dalisay revealed that PPJ now provides the highest daily subsistence allowance compared to other facilities such as the Bureau of Corrections / New Bilibid Prison (BUCOR/NBP), La Union Provincial Jail (PJ), as well as provincial jails in Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Bulacan, Albay, Negros Oriental, Benguet, and Aurora.

In addition to the meal allowance increase, PPJ, in collaboration with the Provincial Health Office (PHO), conducts Quarterly Medical/Dental Missions for PDLs. The first mission took place on June 9, with the next scheduled for September 22.

New activities at PPJ are provision of the Alternative Learning System (ALS) for 21 elementary and 38 high school undergraduate PDLs, tentatively set on September 2, organization of Community-Based Skills Training Project (Basic Electrical Troubleshooting and Basic Carpentry Repair) sometime in October through PESO.

Meanwhile, Dalisay highlighted some significant accomplishments of the Pangasinan Provincial Jail, including zero recorded escapes, full compliance with court orders (no issued contempt of court), and no disallowances issued. (Pangasinan PIO/CCB)
