A prosthesis center is expected to be constructed at the Lingayen District Hospital (LDH) in Lingayen town to address the needs of persons with disabilities (PWDs) needing artificial, arm, leg or foot.

Former Board Member Von Mark Mendoza and now special assistant to the Governor, said in an interview over DWIZ Dagupan, there is a memorandum of understanding between the LDH and the Physicians for Peace Foundation headed by Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa, who was the former administrator of a hospital owned by the Guico family.

The foundation was created to serve the needs of PWDs, specifically prosthesis, Mendoza said.

He said Pangasinenses needing prosthetic arm or leg or foot still have to go to Pampanga where there is a prosthesis center so Gov. Ramon Guico III thought of having one in Pangasinan “to make the services accessible to Pangasinenses.”

Pangasinan will likely provide a counterpart to the requirements set by the foundation, Mendoza said.

Dr. Dalvie Casilang, head of Hospital Management Services Office of the Provincial Health Office, said once the prosthesis center is established, it will be the first prosthesis center in the province and LDH, as the mobile prosthesis center is possibly the first in the country.

Meanwhile, Dr. Aurelio Cariño, Chief of Hospital 1 said, the expansion of LDH as level II Referral Hospital and Training and Learning Hospital is being readied and a four-storey building health facility is up for construction.

Also, he said there is a need to prepare the new buildings to start the opening of emergency room, diagnostic area, Intensive Care Unit, prosthesis center and the ongoing construction of dialysis center expected to be finished this year.

The LDH, also known as Don Mariano Versoza Memorial Hospital located in Solis St, is a 40- bed capacity Level 1 Referral Hospital with prescribed license from the Department of Health. (Eva Visperas)
