DepEd: Classes start August 29
ENROLLED children in primary and high school in Pangasinan are expected to be in their respective schools on August 29, Monday for the School Year 2023-2024.
The schedule was announced by the Department of Education (DepEd) last Thursday, August 3 though schools damaged by Typhoon Egay may not be ready for the opening.
Recent rains and typhoons that resulted in extended flooding, particularly in Central Pangasinan, have caused problems for schools like Bued National High School in Calasiao whose classroom were submerged and damaged books and learning modules in waters.
This, however, would not deter DepEd from conducting enrolment.
DepEd Region I Director Tolentino Aquino said the regional office has instructed schools to form a team to monitor and make necessary changes to shift to online enrolment.
He added that the school year will start on August 29, regardless of the school’s status.
Students who are unable to come to school for in-person classes may still learn, as the DepEd still implements blended learning.
Aquino said learners will still be able to use the self-learning modules prepared for them.
However, as more and more LGUs are being declared under the State of Calamity, the DepEd Regional Office I is on standby if the Head Office will adjust the opening of classes.
As per August 3, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office has reported that over 200 local government units in the country have been declared to be under state of calamity. (Ahikam Pasion)
