FUND-RAISING FOR TERMINALLY ILL PERSONNEL, DAY CARE

THE ‘Cong. Sandro Marcos Cup Pangasinan’, a two-day shootfest held in Lingayen by the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office at the PPPO shooting range in Lingayen town on June 24 and 25 raised funds for the care of terminally ill personnel and the construction of a daycare center for children of PPPO personnel.

The event was organized by P/Colonel Jeff Fanged, PPPO director, P/Colonel Ferdinand de Asis, head of Pangasinan Shooters’ Association Inc., and Patrick Rosario, Match Director.

In an interview, Fanged said there are presently 16 PPPO personnel with terminal illnesses, four of whom are already bedridden. “This is the PPPO’s way to care for their own,” he said.

Fanged said part of the proceeds will be given to them to enable them to purchase medicines and treatment.

“Ang pulis palaging nag-aasikaso ng iba, but how can we take care of others when we cannot take care of our own?” said Fanged.

Other proceeds of the shootfest will be spent for the construction of the building  for the Early Childhood Care and Development Center (ECCDC), whose groundbreaking ceremony was held Monday morning, June 26, led by led by PNP Deputy Chief for Operations P/LGeneral Michael Dubria, who represented PNP Chief P/General Benjamin Acorda Jr.

Once built and operational, Fanged said children of PPPO personnel, aged three to five years old, can have their first phase of their learning from more than 100 policemen who are also licensed teachers.

Coordination with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is ongoing to formalize the center.

Fanged hopes this will be the first of more day care centers to be built inside premises owned by the Pangasinan PPO. (Ahikam Pasion)
