Prov’l Board admonishes Aguilar councilor
FOR IGNORING INVITATIONS
SIXTH District Board Member Noel Bince strongly admonished a municipal councilor for ignoring the invitation by the provincial board to attend the Question Hour and to shed light on alleged issues involving the Aboitiz solar plant project in Aguilar town.
Bince said in their session last Monday that, “I want to strongly admonish Councilor (Angelo) Limos for showing no respect to the highest legislative body of the province.”
He said invitation to Limos and other parties concerned to give an update regarding the accident that happened in Daang Katutubo in Sitio Mapita, Barangay Laoag, Aguilar town, last March 2, 2023 was to investigate, in aid of legislation, for the eventual passage of an ordinance for the safety of workers in other similar projects.
Vice Gov. Mark Lambino explained to local newsmen that during the first Question Hour on March 15 about the accident that killed four construction workers and 31 others injured including the driver of a mini dump truck that the victims rode in on their way home from the project site on March 2 at around 6:00 p.m., that it was Limos who mentioned that the submitted company files were lacking.
Bince said since Limos, the chairman of the Committee on Environment in Aguilar, could not submit the required documents to the provincial board, the deliberation could not continue. Another Question Hour was set on June 5, but Limos was a no show.
Aguilar Mayor Kristal Soriano went to the provincial board ahead of their session time to ask to be excused from the Question Hour because of an important matter that needed her attention.
After their Question Hour, the board asked Aboitiz officials to submit documents as proofs of legality for occupying and constructing its solar plant in Aguilar.
The Aboitiz executives replied their operation has a special land use permit from the DENR converting that forest land area where the project is being constructed into industrial purpose. They showed the accompanying lease agreement from the DENR to clarify the issues raised against the company.
Lambino stressed that while they see the benefits of the project, they want to make sure that when the implementation begins there would be no doubts or questions about the construction. (Eva Visperas)
