THE Sangguniang Panlalawigan continues its investigation into the road accident that happened on March 2 that killed four persons and injuring 35 others, in Sitio Mapita, Barangay Laoag, Aguilar when an overloaded mini-dump truck crashed on a hillside.

Those killed and injured were workers of the Sumec Corporation, one of the contractors of the Aboitiz Power Corporation which is currently building a solar power farm in Aguilar.

It was learned that Sumec and Aboitiz already assumed the funeral and hospital expenses of those who died and were injured in the accident and also provided financial assistance to their families as settlement.

Invited by the SP during the continuation of the investigation of the incident were representatives of Aboitiz Power Corporation, Sumec Corporation and the Aguilar Police.

Among those who attended the hearing was Ji Wei, manager of the contractor Sumec who confirmed to the SP that his company already awarded compensation to the families of the dead and injured workers.

n that hearing, P/Major Ryan Taminaya, chief of police of Aguilar, told the SP that the case of Reckless Imprudence resulting in Multiple Homicide and Multiple Physical Injuries were filed against the driver of Sumec mini-dump truck before the Aguilar-Bugallon Municipal Trial Court is set for hearing on June 15.

Next issue being focused by the SP is on whether the construction of a solar power plant in Aguilar went through proper legal processes and whether the company secured all the necessary documents in connection with its project

The SP asked Aboitiz and Sumec to bring all the documents that they have secured from proper government agencies to show that they were allowed to start the project for perusal of the SP members.

Among these important documents is the Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) issued by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

As far as the SP is concerned, the solar farm project in Aguilar was not yet given imprimatur by the provincial government to undertake its project. (104.3 IFM Dagupan)
