Floating garbage teeming in Pantal River

RESIDENTS living near coastal areas of Dagupan City continue to see gross and decaying garbage floating along the Pantal River, particularly when the level of water rises due to high tide.

Two days ago, residents of Barangay Calmay saw a sack of floating garbage near the motorboat landing area that emitted stench so bad that the neighborhood suspected it to contain decomposing fish that died from a recent fish kill, only to find rotting garbage inside.

The sack was conveniently thrown down the river by inconsiderate residents from upstream who find it more convenient to dump their garbage to the river instead of waiting for a garbage collectors to take their garbage to barangay material recovery facilities,

With high tide occurring more frequently, more floating garbage dumped into the river from upstream surface to the consternation of residents living by the river.
