Members of SP majority ‘chicken-out’ in meeting with MBTF
MEMBERS of the seven-man majority in the Dagupan Sangguniang Panlungsod were a no-show in their scheduled 2:00 p.m. on Friday (June 23) meeting at City Hall with Mayor Belen Fernandez.
Fernandez and other city officials (Vice Mayor Bryan Kua and the SP minority members composed of Councilors Michael Fernandez, Jeslito Seen, Dennis Canto, Marcelino Fernandez and Joshua Bugayong) waited till past 4:00 p.m. but not one member of the majority showed up for the scheduled meeting.
Councilor Redford Erfe-Mejia, chair of the SP committee on budget, finance and appropriations, himself asked for the meeting with Mayor Fernandez to discuss, he said, on matters important to the city. He went as far as assuring the latter that “he is a man of his word”.
Mayor Fernandez accepted the challenge of Erfe-Mejia and agreed to meet with him and his allied councilors in the majority.
Councilor Michael Fernandez said he and his colleagues went to the city hall before 2:00 p.m. and waited for the arrival of the Erfe-Mejia et al. and expressed his disappointment that the seven failed to show up.
Recall that the seven councilors also recently boycotted two consecutive regular sessions of the city council.
It was during the meeting of the Local Development Council when Erfe-Mejia told the meeting that the majority councilors have been seeking a meeting with the mayor but she spurned all the requests.
Mayor Fernandez, however, belied the claim of Erfe-Mejia, saying she recalled meeting with them five times, but she is still amenable to holding another meeting with them.
Fernandez cancelled all her appointments Friday afternoon to give way to the 7 councilors. (Leonardo Micua)
