June 15 earthquake’s impact

IN the aftermath of the Intensity 2 earthquake that struck Dagupan and the rest of Pangasinan at 10:19 a. m. on June 15, whose epicenter was in Calatagan, Batangas where it was felt at Magnitude 6.3, LGU Bayambang ordered the suspension of classes in all levels in the afternoon of that day.

Bayambang Mayor Nina Jose Quiambao posted the order in her Facebook page.

In the adjacent town of Bautista, Mayor Joseph Espino deployed the town’s Rapid Damage and Needs Analysis Team to inspect the buildings and schools within the municipality.

The team was composed of the Municipal Engineering Office, Bureau of Fire Protection and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

In Dagupan City, students and staff of Universidad de Dagupan also went out of their respective offices and classes and proceeded to the campus quadrangle when  they felt the tremors.

Work and classes at UdD resumed after 30 minutes.

According to the Public Alert  Response and Monitoring Center (PARMC) of Dagupan, the earthquake that happened at 10:19 a.m. on June 15  lasted for six seconds.

PARMC has an earthquake intensity meter installed by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) at its office located at the  City Engineering Compound on Poblacion Oeste in Dagupan City and Pangasinan.

No damage was reported in Dagupan. (Leonardo Micua)
