MEDIUM-rise condominiums will soon be built on a Dagupan City government lot in Sitio Sta. Maria, Barangay Bonuan Boquig for homeless workers of the Dagupan City government, including teachers and policemen under the mass housing program of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Mayor Belen Fernandez revealed during the flag-raising ceremony on May 28 that Dagupan was selected among the towns and cities in the country that will be the site for mass housing program of PBBM that intends to build one million houses every year throughout the country until the housing backlog in the entire nation is fully addressed.

She said the PBBM housing program outlined by an official of the Department of Human Settlement and Housing during a recent meeting of the League of Cities in Manila. Several towns in Pangasinan will also be included in the housing group program.

The lot on which the medium-rise condominiums will be built, will be the counterpart of Dagupan to the program, she added.

Fernandez said department heads will identify their employees, regular or job order, including consultants, who are qualified to avail of the condominium-type of housing in the city that will be amortized under easy installment plans.

For the city to confirm its interest to avail of the housing plan, the Sangguniang Panlungsod has to pass a resolution making the lot located in Bonuan Boquig as site for the mass housing program of President Marcos.

She asked Councilor and Minority Floor Leader Michael Fernandez to file the resolution.

Meanwhile, Mayor Fernandez said another resolution is needed authorizing the transfer of a lot owned by the city of Dagupan in Sitio Guam, Barangay Pantal to informal settler families living in the area.

She directed City Legal Officer Aurora Valle and the City Assessor to prepare all the needed documents to formalize the turnover to the informal settlers.

The land, formerly owned by the Veterans Bank, was bought by the city government during Fernandez’ first term as mayor of Dagupan but before the titles could be transferred, she lost in her reelection bid.

The succeeding Lim administration, however, did not continue to transfer the land to the informal settlers. (Leonardo Micua)
