Villa Verde Trail reopens after landslides

AFTER successive landslides hitting the Caraballo Mountains, the Villa Verde Trail reopens to motorists and guests.

Shallom Balolong of the San Nicolas Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Office said clearing operations have been completed, prompting the reopening of the road towards the province’s summer capital.

The San Nicolas local government collaborated with the Department of Public Works and Highways during the clearing operations, removing all rubble and boulders out of the way.

However, roads may be closed anytime if landslides resume.

The Villa Verde Trail last recorded a landslide on Tuesday, May 9, due to localized thunderstorms in the eastern part of the province.

Meanwhile, Kennon Road, one of the roads to Baguio City, is closed to motorists since Tuesday, May 9 after rains resulted in soil erosion, which then overturned slope protection that are still under construction.

The DPWH-Cordillera has not yet eyed any particular date to reopen said road. (Ahikam Pasion)
