LTFRB-1 issues advisory during calamity (Mawar)
ANTICIPATING heavy rains, Super Typhoon Mawar will bring on account of the southwesterly windflow (weak Habagat), the Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Regional Office I issued an advisory to drivers of public utility vehicles for their safety.
The advisory issued by LTFRB Regional Director Ahmed Cuizon urged PUV drivers to suspend plying their routes if PAGASA raises Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal #3 and ensure that their units are parked in their respective garages.
PUVs plying seaport routes were advised not to board passengers to seaports if TCWS #1 has been raised, to prevent them from being stranded, as boats and other sea vessels will not be allowed to sail anyway.
And, if the PUV is located in the seaport, it must return passengers to the PUV’s point of origin, so they could safely return to their respective families before the situation worsens.
Meanwhile, vehicles used by LGUs and non-governmental agencies (NGAs) are exempted from applying for special permits, provided that they are used for evacuation.
After disaster hits, PUVs may travel out of line, if primary routes in their respective areas are inaccessible.
Ultimately, Cuizon warned PUV drivers against overcharging, especially during times of disaster or face revocation of their franchises if reported to have overcharged passengers. (Ahikam Pasion)
