DAGUPAN staged the biggest launching of the ‘Chikiting Ligtas 2023’ nationwide.

This was the impression of Health Undersecretary Enrique Tayag, who led the activity held at CSI Stadia on May 9 attended by officials of the Department of Health, World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and Relief International.

“It is also the biggest in terms of support of your local officials led by your own mayor and vice mayor,” said Tayag, who was accompanied to Dagupan by Dr. Namrata Bhatta, WHO consultant, and representatives of UNICEF and Relief International.

Mayor Belen Fernandez, Vice Mayor Bryan Kua and other officials, barangay captains and other stakeholders were joined by Tayag and Bhatta when they signed a Pledge of Commitment to support the renewed vaccination drive for children.

The vaccination campaign that started in Dagupan on May 1, targets to give lifetime protection to children, 59 months old and below, against vaccine-preventable diseases  such as measles, rubella and polio.

Mayor Fernandez called on parents in Dagupan to voluntarily submit all their eligible children for vaccination in order to safeguard their health against any diseases from their young age to adulthood.

City Heath Officer Ophelia Rivera said records showed that since May 1, up to 400 children of Dagupan or 24 percent have already been vaccinated with vaccine against measles,  rubella and polio. (Leonardo Micua)
