TWG endorses establishment of Pangasinan Polytechnic College
THE Technical Working Group (TWG) organized by Gov. Ramon Guico III gave the greenlight for the establishment of a Pangasinan Polytechnic College (PPC), one of his declared plans in his first State of the Province Address last week.
This three-day TWG strategic planning workshop at Hiraya Wellness and Eco-Park in Aguilar town also endorsed the establishment of PPC campuses in Lingayen, San Carlos City and a still undetermined town or city in Eastern Pangasinan.
Gov. Guico said the three PPC campuses should be located strategically along the Pangasinan East-West Expressway (PEWEx) for easy access by students. But whose construction, according to him, in yet undisclosed alignment, is yet to groundbreak in September this year.
During the workshop. Dr. Raymundo Rovillos, consultant on research and development proposed that PPC initially offers three programs — Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Technology, Bachelor in Design and Multi-Media Arts and Bachelor of Science in Governance – and will increase gradually depending on the needs, particularly, a program that will produce teachers for Special Education (SPED) to children with special needs.
The governor said PPC will not compete with the Pangasinan State University (PSU) and private colleges and universities in Pangasinan.
The TWG includes representatives from CPS, CHED central-regional offices, DepEd Schools Division 1, TESDA provincial office, Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office, General Services Office, Pangasinan Provincial Library, and Human Resource Management and Development Office and Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
The first workshop was joined by Dr. Perla Legaspi, Executive Director of the Center for Pangasinan Studies (CPS); Dr. Jose Camacho Jr., UP-Los Baños Chancellor Dr. Greg Pawilen, UP-Los Baños Director of the Office of Institutional Development in Higher Education, Dr. Christine Ferrer, Director, International Affairs & Linkages of Tarlac Agricultural University; Dr. Pedro Torio Jr., Consultant, Provincial Governor’s Office; SP Secretary Verna T. Nava-Perez; Nicanor Germono Jr., Executive Assistant, CPS; and PTCAO Chief Ma. Luisa A. Elduayan.
