THE Guico administration and the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) are taking bold steps to aid Urban Poor families (UPFs) in the province.

In a meeting between PCUP Undersecretary Elpidio R. Jordan, Jr., Provincial Legal Officer Atty. Baby Ruth Torre and Provincial Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Officer Alvin Bigay last April 19 at the Capitol conference room, several initiatives were discussed.

One such initiative was the ‘Piso ko, Bahay ko’ housing program that aimed at providing homes for homeless families in the province.

PCUP which serves as the government’s arm in poverty alleviation also pushed its program ‘Lingkod Agapay Maralita (LAM). This was further strengthened by its ‘PCUP Goodwill Ambassadors Program (GAP)’, which seeks to encourage individuals from the business sector, academe and non-government sectors to address economic needs of UPFs.

The two programs according to PCUP will definitely help UPFs save.

To hasten implementation of projects and policies, PCUP suggested the establishment of satellite offices in Pangasinan. (PIO)
