Marijuana uprooted in Labrador

GOVERNMENT troops uprooted 140 fully grown marijuana plants valued at P8,000 that were planted by still undetermined persons in the hilly Barangay Tobuan in Labrador in operation Oplan Gapas.

The Pangasinan PNP, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) provincial office and other units of the police swooped down on the farm that planted marijuana following receipt of intelligence reports that there were about a hundred fully-grown marijuana plants in the area.

Cases for violation of Section 16, Article II of Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 are now being readied against the suspects yet to be named.

Gastroenteritis rising in Calasiao

FIVE Barangays in Calasiao are under close watch by the Municipal Health Office (MHO)  due to rising cases of gastroenteritis.

Most of the 94 cases of gastroenteritis registered from January 1 to April 8 came from Barangays Ambonao, Buenlag, Banaoang, San Miguel and Dinaloan.

The MHO said the 94 cases were 30 percent higher than the 64 cases of gastro enteritis recorded for the same period this year.

Meanwhile, the hot weather prevailing is being blamed for the rise in gastroenteritis cases for more than three months this year. It is because when the weather is hot, food easily get spoiled, causing contamination. Also, drying up of wells may compel some people to source drinking water from unsafe sources.

Mangaldan cops submit to surprise drug tests

EIGHTY-one officers and men of the Mangaldan Police Station led by P/Lt. Colonel Benjamin Zarate submitted themselves to surprise drug tests last week on order of higher authorities.

Zarate told IFM Dagupan that this was the fourth surprise drug testing on police stations in Pangasinan to find out if any of their members are taking illegal drugs.

All tested negative use on illegal drugs.

No active African Swine Fever cases to date

ROSENDO So, chairman of the Samahan ng Industriya at Agricultura (SINAG) who noted that despite having no more active ASF case to date, Pangasinan is still included among the provinces in yellow zone.

He said Pangasinan is already recovering from the impact of ASF. “Hindi ibig sahihin, ay apektado pa ito sa ngayon,” So intoned.

Talks ongoing to upgrade Lingayen Airport to international airport

FRESH talks are now ongoing for the conversion of the Lingayen Airport into an international airport.

Involved in this talk are the office of Second District Rep. Mark Cojuangco and Department of Transportation-Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (DOTr-CAAP).

They believe on the importance of having an international airport in Pangasinan to stimulate its economy growth and attract foreign tourists and investors since

Pangasinan is endowed with beautiful tourists spots and rich in culture.

Golden Rice ceremonial planting held in Mangatarem

THE Golden rice was planted in a ceremony in Barangay Malibong in Mangatarem last week following a coordination made by Second District Rep. Mark Cojuagco with the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice), producer of the Golden Rice seed.

PhilRice will monitor closely the growth of the Golden Rice from transplanting to harvest. Golden Rice is rich in Vitamin A and will be used to feed children who are deficient in Vitamin A and other nutrients.

The production of Golden Rice is Cojuangco’s strategy to bring down the rate of malnutrition among children in his district.

Informal settlers occupy Bayambang dike

LGU Bayambang has stopped seven ongoing construction by informal settlers on top of the Agno River dike in the town.

This, following an ocular inspection of personnel of the Bayambang Public Safety Office (BPSO) along the dike and along the former railroad tracks by of the Philippine National Railways.

Owners of these structures whose construction is ongoing could not present any building permit issued by LGU Bayambang. BPSO advised owners of these structures to stop their construction as it is prohibited to construct houses or abodes within the 20-meter easement zone of the local government.

Kadiwa Ng Pangulo in Dagupan on April 30

THE Kadiwa ng Pangulo will roll out in Dagupan City on April 30 to enable residents to buy fresh and affordable agricultural and fishery products.

Mayor Belen Fernandez said officials of the Department of Agriculture came to her office to coordinate the arrival of the Kadiwa ng Pangulo that aims to help ease the impact of high prices on basic commodities and help small local entrepreneurs recover from the adverse effect of the last pandemic.

Up to 25 sellers from the DA, Bureau of Fisheries  and Aquatic Resources, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Labor and Employment and worker from LGU Dagupan will attend to buyer of agricultural and fishery products, including Dagupan bangus.

CHD warns versus summer diseases

THE Center for Health Development in Ilocos Region has warned the public to take extra- precaution against water and food borne diseases that are prevalent during the dry months.

CHD said Cholera, Hepatitis A, Typhoid Fever, Rotavirus, dysentery and even paralytic shellfish poisoning diseases are caused by infectious organisms such as bacteria, virus and parasites that are present in contaminated water and food.

Symptoms of these diseases include loose bowel movement, vomiting, fever, stomach pains and loss of one’s appetite. If not attended to immediately, the person who suffers loose bowel movement and vomiting may suffer dehydration, which could be fatal.

Oral rehydration solution, according to CHD, can be prepared in the homes. This comprises one liter of safe drinking water, eight spoonful of sugar and one spoon of salt.
