DOH OIC Secretary Vergiere visits R1MC

DEPARTMENT of Health Officer-in-Charge Maria Rosario Vergeire visited the Region 1 Medical Center in Dagupan City last week to discuss planned improvements of its facilities and services to its growing number of patients.

Noting that patients of R1MC facilities are overflowing and some patients are being accommodated along aisles, Vergeire directed Dr. Joseph Roland Mejia to submit plans for expansion of wards to accommodate more patients.

Impressed by the accomplishments of R1MC,  Vergerie vowed to provide additional facilities to R1MC so that it can respond to the needs of patients.

Vergiere was accompanied by Regional I DOH Regional Dirctor Paz Sydiongco and Undersecretary Eric Tayag.

She first visited the towns of Sison and Manaoag.

Poultry raisers affected by high heat index

DUE to high heat index, poultry raisers are prematurely harvesting their chicken and cannot wait for the usual 45-days term.

The raisers said when the heat index in Pangasinan reaches 42 to 46 degrees Celsius, chicken are prone to heat stroke after overeating because of the temperature.

However, the Provincial Veterinary Office directed its Municipal Veterinary Offices to ensure that live chicken being sold in the local markets are issued corresponding permits.

Meanwhile, residents in Malasiqui slammed a poultry owner for not observing sanitation in his poultry farm spawning swarms of fly and mosquitoes.

Sison Police Station is drug-free work place

THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has certified that the Police Station of Sison is a drug-free work place.

The certificate was presented during the orientation seminar for the establishment of a drug-free work place in the town by PDEA, Department of the Interior and Local Government and the provincial government.

Mayor Danilo Uy urged the town’s policemen to continue doing public service responsibly to the  community.

 Garbage dumping in river noted 

THE worsening pollution of the river in Barangay Salapingao due to volume of garbage floating on the river nowadays is being dumped by some residents who have become impatient over the irregularity of collection of garbage in their barangay.

The residents said there used to be weekly collection of garbage from various households but this has not been regularly done now.

Because of the irregularity in the collection of garbage from homes, some residents admitted found it more convenient to dump their wastes into the water, polluting the river with no care.

Number of informal settlers increasing in Bayambang

THE Local Housing Board (LHB) of Bayambang expressed serious concern over increasing number of informal settlers in the town, building makeshift structures in no-build zones in the town.

This problem was taken up during a meeting conducted by members of the LHB with LHB chairperson Marlene Torio and  the Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator, attended by the representative of Mayor Nina Jose Quiambao, Sangguniang Bayan Member who chair the committee on house, municipal legal officer, chief of police, Cenpelco and Baywad.

They reviewed existing laws on housing and settlement and  prepared an action  plan  to address the illegal construction of makeshift houses in prohibited areas and danger zones.

Asingan eyes Good Education Good Governance award

LGU Asingan and members of the Local School Board hare actively discussing and pursuing plans to help the town win the Good Education Governance award for the town.

They discussed about distribution of seeds of fruit-bearing trees that will be planted in every school lot and the distribution of books and school paraphernalia.

The Asingan local government and the Office of the School’s District Supervisor vowed to collaborate to bring about quality education to the town’s pupils and students.

23 grass fires in Calasiao

THE Calasiao Bureau of Fire Protection reported 23 grass fires that hit five barangays in Calasiao town, namely, San Miguel, Nalsian, Mancup, Banaoang and Buenlag.

The most recent was a fire that broke out in a corn field in the town.

These grass fires are often caused by indiscriminate throwing of lighted cigarettes in open fields because all grasses are dry and really prone to fires.

The local BFP called on residents to be watchful of their surroundings so that grass fires can easily be put off.
