DOH distributes barangay health packages in 6th District

THE Department of Health (DOH) – Ilocos Region distributed 140 barangay health station (BHS) packages to capacitate primary care facilities in the 6th District.

The ₱28 million worth of BHS package is composed of a dressing cart, minor surgical set, mechanical bed, spine board, EENT diagnostic set, weighing scale with BMI calculator, weighing scale for infant, fetal doppler and examining table, medicine cabinet, instrument cabinet funded through the Health Facility Enhancement Program (HFEP)

“The equipment is for barangay health stations so they can provide primary care services to prevent, diagnose, treat and rehabilitate illnesses and diseases at the local level, safely and effectively,” Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco said during the turn-over ceremony held in Tayug town on March 4, 2023.

Our BHS (barangay health stations) act as the frontline providers of public health services at the municipal and barangay levels kaya dapat mayroon silang kumpletong kagamitan para makapagbigay ng tamang serbisyo. We also need to cope with the increasing population in order to provide them the needed health care services, that is why we are focusing on the development of primary care facilities,” she said.

The role of BHD is to provide preventive, regulatory, medical care services in the municipality including general consultations, dental services, maternal health, family planning, nutrition, immunization, laboratory examination health promotion/education, environmental sanitation services, communicable/non-communicable disease control and community-based rehabilitation services.

The medical equipment for RHUs were initiatives of the 6th  Rep. Marlyn Primicias-Agabas. (DOH 1)
