LGU Binalonan enacts two ordinances instilling public discipline

THE Binalonan local government passed two municipal ordinances that seek to instill further discipline among residents and visitors.

Municipal Ordinance No. 2021-01 seeks the clearing of all streets from any obstructions like parked vehicles and makeshift structures, while  Municipal Ordinance No. 2004-09 regulating smoking in public places as well as inside public transportation. The two new municipal ordinances provide stiff penalties to violators.

The municipal government earlier strictly enforced an ordinance prohibiting discriminate throwing of garbage, peeing and disposing of excreta or poos anywhere other than in toilets and spitting in public that could affect public health. Also being enforced is the anti-smoking ordinance incompliance with the Tobacco Regulatory Act of 2003. (Joana de Vera)

Surprise drug testing launched in Asingan

AFTER Asingan local government received a resolution confirming the retention of its drug-cleared status from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Mayor Carlos Lopez Jr. conducted surprise drugs tests on all barangay officials, civilian volunteer Organizations and members of other groups as the  first step of the municipal government, along with the PNP, DILG and PDEA, to ensure that local officials are cleared of illegal drug.

Lopez said the move was undertaken to ensure that the 21 barangays declared by PDEA as 100 percent drug-cleared last month will be sustained.

At the same time, the town mayor appealed to his constituents to report to the police any suspicious-looking persons and activities in Asingan. (Lyka Blanco)

Road-clearing launched in Bayambang  

THE Road-Clearing Task Force formed by Mayor Nina Jose-Quiambao has not stopped road clearing operations in the town in compliance with DILG Memorandum Circular 2022-085.

The task force is composed of representatives of BSPO, DILG, PNP, BFP, Engineering, Market, ESWMO, and other offices of the municipal government. The task force cleared portions of the national road in Brgy. Cadre Site, M.H. Del Pilar, Nalsian, Zone 1 and Tamaro of parked vehicles, makeshift stalls and others.

It was learned that one of the causes of road accidents in these road stretches is the presence of unwanted structures, including  parked vehicles along the road sides. Road clearing was designed to ensure that these roads are accessible to pedestrian and  motorists at any time. (Joana de Vera)

Reward money set to locate missing girl 

THE Asingan local government offered P15,000 reward to any person who can furnish valuable information on the whereabouts of a missing 12- year old deaf and mute girl.

The girl was identified as Angeline Paringit, a resident of Barangay Poblacion East, Asingan, who reportedly left their home and could no longer be found.

Of the P15,000 reward money, by Mayor Carlos Lopez Jr. is giving P10,000 and Poblacion East Punong Barangay Melchor Cardinez Jr. ₱5,000. Anyone with information about Paringit may contact Asingan PNP 0905 461 8881 / 0998 5985 137 or the office of Mayor Lopez.

Capitol extends cash assistance to LGUs affected by Typhoon Paeng

THE provincial government via Resolution No. 6 passed by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan extended P2 million in financial assistance to the provinces severely affected by Typhoon “Paeng” on October 9 last year.

Pangasinan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) officer Rhodyn Oro said the financial assistance was extended to the provinces of Maguindanao, Antique and the town of Kalibo, Aklan.

Oro said the financial assistance were given because the people of  Pangasinan  were inspired by the determination of the people of the typhoon-affected areas to buckle down and rise from the calamity.

Oro travelled to Maguindanao, Antique and Kalibo, Aklan as representative of Gov. Ramon Guico III to personally hand over the financial assistance to their officials.

Bagoong Festival logo unveiled 

THE logo of the upcoming Lingayen Bagoong Festival 2023 was officially unveiled in a ceremony presided over by Mayor Leopoldo Bataoil.

The official logo of the festival is an earthen container called “pasig”, symbolizing the town’s native product “bagoong” or fish paste, where the fish and salt are fermented to be made into best tasting and sweet-smelling “bagoong”, Lingayen’s best home product.

However, because of the last pandemic, the celebration of  Bagoong Festival was suspended  temporarily for two years.

Mayor Bataoil said the Bagoong Festival is dedicated to the unrelenting people of Lingayen and those living abroad, many of whom will take the opportunity to go home to celebrate this occasion with their relatives and towns mates. (Joana de Vera)

Stolen cow sold to Pozorrubio kagawad

A 30-year-old man from Pozorrubio is now facing a case of violation of the anti-fencing law after selling a stolen cow to a barangay kagawad.

Suspect Fidel Ungria sold the cow for P32, 000 to Barangay Kagawad Florante Palang with the latter not knowing that the animal was stolen by the former. Palang said he learned that the cow sold to him was stolen when the owner of the stolen cow and the police were conducting a search for the missing animal.

Palang pointed to Ungria as the one who sold him the stolen cow. A case is now being prepared by the police against Ungria. (Badz Agtalao)
