AUTOPRO members not ready for PUV Modernization

DESPITE the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) extending the deadline for jeepney modernization up to December this year, the Alliance of United Transport Organization Provincewide (AUTOPRO) – Pangasinan is hoping for the suspension of the PUV Modernization Program.

Bernard Tuliao, AUTOPRO – Pangasinan President, said while the LTFRB decided to further extend the deadline of modernization, upgrade of traditional jeeps into modern ones, the plan will still take more time to implement.

Tuliao said they may not continue the planned strike they are in full support of, the fact remains that while the LTFRB deadline is extended, the threat of phase-out still exists.

He said modernized vehicles cost two to three million pesos and no members of AUTOPRO have transitioned to modern jeepneys.

“Hindi pa talaga kami handa at hindi namin kaya”, Tuliao said in an interview.

Tuliao also questioned the government on their choice of vehicles, as they were China-made. Filipino-made jeeps were found to be cheaper, at around P600,000 to P 700,000.

Mayroon naman tayong mga local jeepney manufacturers pasok din naman sa requirements nila, mas mura pa, eh bakit doon pa sa China-made?”, Tuliao wondered. (Ahikam Pasion)
