Dengue cases in region down to 23

THE number of dengue cases in Region 1 during the month of January 2023 has declined, according to the Department of Health-Center for Health Development 1.

Records of DOH-CHD 1 showed there were only 23 that were logged which was 39% lower compared to the number of cases recorded during the same period last year.

The cases were from Pangasinan (15 cases), Ilocos Norte (5), La Union (3) while no case was logged in Ilocos Sur. Health authorities are, however, concerned that the cases could be higher because of the refusal of some people who felt the symptoms of the disease to consult health professionals.

Meanwhile, misting and fogging operations are ongoing in various barangays in the region in a bid to destroy the breeding places of dengue-carrying mosquitoes. (Jhon Caranto)

Water hyacinths crowding Dagupan rivers anew

WATER Hyacinths along the Sinocalan-Pantal River and in other river tributaries located in Dagupan City are beginning to teem anew with summer fast approaching.

Waterlilies in Sitio Fisheries in Brgy. Malued were seen to have multiplied rapidly whose growth was enhanced by the searing heat of the sun.

Residents have appealed to Mayor Belen Fernandez to order the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and the City Engineering Office to clear the river that unless these are removed, these can result in severe floods in the area during the rainy  season. (Rona Racca)

Dagupan reducing pedestrian lanes to minimize accidents

DAGUPAN City’s the Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) is recommending to city hall that the number of its pedestrian lanes in the city be reduced to minimize road and pedestrian accidents.

According to POSO Dagupan chief Ervin Decano, the data that they compiled showed that among the causes of many road accidents were the numerous pedestrian lanes in the business district. In some areas, pedestrian lanes are only few meters apart.

POSO’s study show that aside from slowing down vehicular traffic, the presence of many pedestrian lanes pose as obstacles that risk lives of people using the pedestrian lanes.
Mayor Fernandez has yet to endorse the recommendation of POSO.

LTO Region bares 1,000 license backlog

THE Land Transportation Office in Region 1 registered an estimated 1,000 backlog in the distribution of permanent license cards in its various district office last year.

The backlog in the distribution is largely caused by the failure of drivers who were issued with temporary licenses to return to claim their printed license cards.

Acting Regional Director Kathleen Salayog of LTO Region 1 said the issuance of the temporary license became necessary because the printing of the permanent license cards could not cope with the number of applicants.

Salayog appealed to holders of temporary licenses to go to their district offices and claim their permanent license cards before they lose their acknowledgement receipts issued by LTO which could further result in problems when claiming the plastic cards.

The LTO district office in Dagupan is the only district office that has no backlog in the issuance of the permanent license cards. (Jhon Caranto)

Bayambang mayor warns of unauthorized use of her name

MAYOR Nina Jose-Quiambao warned persons using her name for unauthorized and unofficial transactions.

In Memorandum No. MO1-2023 signed by Mayor Quiambao, she said some persons have been using her name without any authority from her offering their services to speed up the processing of their applications of their business permits for a fee.

She denied giving such instruction and authority to anyone, much less to any employee of Bayambang government because she knows that giving special or preferential treatment to anyone for a fee is illegal.

She clarified that in her town, there is no special treatment being accorded to anybody and assured that the processing of documents for business permits are being done expeditiously by her staff.  (Jhon Caranto)
