Mother drowned attempting to save her 2 sons
A MOTHER drowned when she attempted to save her two sons who were on the verge of drowning at the Lingayen Beach mid-noon on December 27, according to the Pangasinan police.
The victim was identified as Maricris Ramos, 51, a resident of Barangay Bayoyong, Basista town.
She and her sons, John Christopher, 14, a high school student; and Pio Benedick, 10, a Grade V pupil, were swimming at the beach at about 10 a.m. when big waves swept and dragged them to the deeper part of the Lingayen Gulf.
Seeing her sons helpless and about to drown, Maricris rushed to rescue them but the waves pulled her down before she could reach her children.
Both John Christopher and Pio Benedick were eventually rescued by the Water Search and Rescue (WASAR) team of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) but the latter was unable to save their mother.
Maricris was already unconscious when retrieved by WASAR and was given cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before she was rushed to the Lingayen District Hospital, where she was pronounced Dead on Arrival (DOA) by the attending physician. (Leonardo Micua)
