Dagupan pet vaccination to resume in February
THE Dagupan City Veterinary Office (CVO) will resume anti-rabies vaccinations of pets in February.
This was confirmed by Dr. Daniel Paolo Garcia, city veterinarian, in an interview on Thursday, January 5.
Garcia said while vaccination could resume any time, the CVO decided to suspend because January, being a cold period, is not a suitable period for vaccination, considering the health of pets.
“Many of our pets are currently experiencing colds or have their immune systems weakened due to cold climate. We will resume the vaccinations, probably this February once it gets warmer,” he said.
He stressed that vaccines should only be administered to healthy pets.
Garcia said the CVO targets to inject anti-rabies shots to as many as 14,000 pets in Dagupan this year, higher compared to 12,000 pets they were able to inoculate last year.
The guideline from the Department of Agriculture is to inoculate at least 75-percent of total population of pets in a certain area.
Garcia said the supply of anti-rabies shots are sufficient to cover the targeted number of pets this year.
Meanwhile, pending the resumption of anti-rabies shots, Garcia said pet owners can visit the CVO anytime for the deworming and vitamins of their fur babies.
