FIRST WEEK OF JANUARY 2023

2023 has just started and there were already seven dog bite cases recorded in Dagupan City.

The Dagupan City Health Office reported that the latest victim was an eight-year-old boy who was bitten on his hand, thigh, and feet.

The victim was allegedly walking when the dog suddenly attacked him.

The child was immediately rushed to the city’s animal bite center, and was inoculated with anti-rabies and anti-tetanus vaccines.

Dr. Daniel Paolo Garcia of the Dagupan City Veterinary Office said the dogs have become aggressive due to the stress they experienced during the New Year’s Celebration.

Dogs have heightened senses, compared to humans, making them very sensitive to firecrackers. This causes stress not only for dogs, but for other animals as well, which could last for days, making them irritable.

“Like humans, the stress levels of animals eventually go down, but not immediately. It can last for days.”, said Garcia.

Health authorities advise the public to rush victims of dog bites to the nearest animal bite center for immediate treatment with anti-rabies vaccine. (Ahikam Pasion)
