 BFP on alert over children playing “boga” 

THE Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is on alert to monitor children playing “boga” (home-made bazooka), a banned pyrotechnic.

This was announced during the launching of ‘Oplan Iwas Paputok’ by the Department of Health-Center for Health Development, PNP, BFP and other government agencies.

BFP in Pangasinan is visiting barangays to ensure that no “boga”, a device made from PVC pipe and tin cans, and other banned firecrackers are being made available and or lit. (Jhon Caranto)

9 million vaccines already given to Region 1 residents  

MORE than nine million COVID-19 vaccines were already administered to residents of Region 1 to date based on the latest data released by the Department of Health–Center for Health Development Region 1.

As of December 9, 2022, some 9,271,331 vaccines were already used up in Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte and the city of Dagupan, broken down as: 3,856,399 are considered fully vaccinated and 4,083,726 individuals partially vaccinated

Meanwhile, 1,469,099 individuals were given the first booster shot, and 298,294 availed of the second booster shot.

Vaccination continues in various parts of the region to give more COVID -19 immunity to the residents. (Jhon Caranto)

36 cases of Chikungunya logged in Region 1

THE Department of Health-Center for Health Development Region 1 logged 36 cases of Chikungunya in the region.

La Union tops in the number of Chikungunya cases with 23, followed by Pangasinan with 13 cases, while there was no case registered so far in Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte.

DOH-CHD 1 has placed La Union and Pangasinan under its watchlist for their high cases of Chikungunya.

DOH-CDH 1 Focal Person Dr. Rheuel Bobis said the disease manifests only mild symptoms like body pain and joint pain but warned Chikungunya is an infectious disease as result of mosquito bites.

The agency advised residents to protect themselves by cleaning their surroundings and undertake the 4s: Search and destroy, Self-protection, Seek early consultation and Support fogging operations. (Jhon Caranto)

Satellite voters registration in Dagupan scores initial success 

SOME 226 students were registered during the first day of registration of voters on December 12 at a satellite registration center in the Pugaro Integrated School in Dagupan.

City Elections Officer Michael Franks Sarmiento said the satellite registration targeted Junior and Senior High School students who are 15 years old as new voters. Target was 200.

Another satellite registration was opened on December 15 at the Carael National High School where another 200 students were also expected to be registered.

The City Elections Office at the City Hall is open Monday to Saturday to accommodate new voters and transferring voters. (Ella Garcia)

Mangaldan’s 6K senior citizens receive Xmas cash aid

THE local government of Mangaldan played Santa Claus to some 6,000 senior citizens by giving them cash assistance as Christmas gifts.

The distribution of the Christmas cash gifts was led by Mayor Bonafe Parayno, along with the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), Community Affairs Office (CAO) and Municipal Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO).

The activity was intended to benefit senior citizens in the town who have not received any kind of financial assistance from both the provincial and national governments.

In her message, Mayor Parayno, called on all senior citizens to take good care of their health. (Rona Racca)

Unity Run 2022 drums up health, protection vs. drugs, terrorism

P/COLONEL Jeff Fanged, Pangasinan Police Provincial Director led the Unity Run 2022 along the Baywalk in Lingayen that had for its theme “Takbo ng Pagkakaisa Kontra Droga Krimen at Terorismo”.

This was made possible with the support of Gov. Ramon Guico III as guest of honor but was represented by Rocky Magliba, his consultant on Education and Community Development under the Provincial Governor’s Office.

The Unity Run was participated in by PNP personnel and by stakeholders, members of the civil society, students, Non-Government Organizations and members of Advocacy Support Groups.

The activity aimed at promoting increased awareness on health and in empowering individuals and communities to be responsible in safeguarding themselves from the evils of dangerous drugs as well as in fighting terrorism. (Joana de Vera)

Human rights  of LGBTQI+ Community discussed  in forum

THE human rights of LGBTQI+ Community was further  strengthened in a recent forum conducted with the participation of the  U.S. Special Envoy to Advance the Human Rights of LGBTQI+ Persons.

Discussed in this forum is the Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity or Expression, or Sex Characteristics (SOGIESC) bill filed in Congress by Fourth District Rep. Christopher de Venecia.

Through the forum, participants learned about programs and projects that need to be undertaken in order to advance the human rights and equality of LGBTQI+ Persons.

The forum was supported by District II for the LBTQ1+ Persons in the Philippines and the US Special Envoy to the Philippines. (Rona Raca)
