More 1k families in Bayambang graduate from 4P
MORE than one thousand families in Pangasinan have graduated from the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4P), the flagship program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) – 1,149 families in all.
The graduation ceremonies, held in Bayambang town, signified that they have succeeded in lifting their respective families out of extreme poverty, with work to help their children in their nutrition and education.
DSWD National Program Management Director Gemma Gabuya said the program closely monitored the beneficiaries, ensuring that their monthly allowances were used properly by their families.
The graduation program also cited winners in the search for Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya – the model families that effectively implemented the program; and the search for Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya Children.
The Camacho family from Barangay Paragos in Bayambang town, won the Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya award, while the Parocha and Junio families, from Barangay Hermoza and Ataynan were the first and second runners-up respectively.
Karylle Angeline Diaz of Barangay Langiran was awarded the most exemplary Pantawid Pamilya Child, while Reagan Laza of Barangay Manambong Norte, and Mark Angelo Pagalan of Barangay Manambong Sur, were declared as 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
Virginia Sisey, OIC Division Chief of the Specialized Program Division of DSWD Region I said there are 8,000 families in region 1, 8.7% higher than previous year, expected to be enrolled in the 4Ps soon.
Across the country, 204,755 families, poorest of the poor, and near-poor in their respective communities, were enrolled in the program this year.
The standard basis for their standard targeting system is the poverty threshold set by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) and the candidate family should also be included in the LGU’s DSWD office counterpart.
Aside from financial assistance, the beneficiaries also receive family development seminars. (Ahikam Pasion)
