Mangaldan’s Angalcan River claims four victims

WITH continued reported cases of more drowning incidents along the Angalacan River, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Mangaldan town  has recommended the prohibition of swimming and crossing in the river.

Rodolfo Corla, chief of the Mangaldan MDRRMO, said while efforts to warn barangay residents against crossing and swimming in the river continue, more victims from drowning are reported.

He said the river has claimed countless lives over the years. In 2022 alone, four drowning incidents have so far been recorded.

Last December 10, relatives Romnick Macam, 29, and Rodrigo Bautista, 48, both residents of Barangay Macayug, drowned in the river while attempting to cross as a shortcut to their homes.

In October this year, two Grade 8 students drowned in separate incidents after taking a bath in the river.

The ten-kilometer-long river is a river tributary of the much-larger Cayanga River in San Fabian town. It runs through the municipalities of Pozorrubio, Mangaldan, Mapandan, and Manaoag. (Ahikam Pasion)
